WAREHOUSE LIGHTING

With an eye on the ever-increasing price of energy and the need to make commitments to being more environmentally friendly it is important for companies in the industrial sector, including those who operate warehouses, to look at their operating procedures and look for ways in which they can make improvements.

During COP26 which took place in November 2021, the UK government set out their clear and some say ambitious targets to reduce the effect that the country has on the environment. The target of zero avoidable waste by 2050, has been set and companies are increasingly coming under pressure to do their bit to help. Consumer concerns for the environment are now fueling much of the drive from companies to make improvements, as many consumers are actively looking to support those companies who have not only laid out their commitments but are working towards them.

PROFESSIONAL AND TECHNICAL DESIGN

Warehouse lighting is not only an important way in which companies can create a working environment that is pleasant, comfortable, and safe but also where they can affect simple changes that are better for the environment and can reduce energy bills.

Whether you are looking for a warehouse lighting solution or something that will work well in a logistics centre the fact is you will almost certainly be working with a larger space. High ceilings and the all too often smaller number of windows that allow the natural light into the space mean that your lighting solutions need to be suitable for this type of space. Standard lighting fixtures simply will not work; high bay lighting and linear lights are important considerations.

DESIGNED BY EXPERIENCED OPTIC ENGINEERS

If you need warehouse lighting for an open area or one that has high-level racking in place that is only accessible using a fork, then there are a couple of things to consider. The first of these is that the most appropriate lighting solution is one that needs to avoid flicker and glare and thus reduce the risk of accidents to your employees whilst they are moving goods around. The second is that employees in this environment need to be able to identify the information on goods rapidly, so delivery notes, and labels on packages need to be legible and visible with just a glance. The universal option in these circumstances is CR180, high colour rendering index. Different areas of your warehouse may benefit from different strengths of lighting as well and this is something we would be happy to advise you on.

LED lighting is something that should also be considered, and where possible, PIR sensors, microwave sensors and even wireless solutions. These can help to reduce your warehouse lighting bills and give you energy savings of up to 80% in the long term. If the cost of new warehouse lighting is of concern, then why not get in touch with us to discuss your options? The savings that can be made by changing your lighting options will more than pay for themselves over time.
